Youth Suicide

This blog is meant to bring together those who want to help in preventing this issue. It shares hard-hitting statistics and advocates on policy changes that should be put-forth. You can also read my opinion on what I believe can help prevent suicide and you may have the opportunity to share your own. This blog also connects you to my own personal assignments that I have chosen to do on Youth Suicide.

About Me

Alicia Torres
My name is Alicia Torres. I am 18 years old and am attending the University of Texas at El Paso. I have always been interested in teen suicide because I find it intriguing that a person can end their own life so quickly. This issue takes the lives of thousands of people and yet does not get much attention. My neighbor of 8 years committed suicide and it was a horrific tragedy for my family and the whole neighborhood. He had just graduated high school and joined the Army and everyone was so proud of him. Upon hearing the news of his death, his parents were completely devastated and his best friend was in shock. We all were. I would have never guessed that something like that could ever happen to someone I knew, and I know that people who have experienced losing someone to suicide feel the same way. Teen suicide is not impossible to prevent, however, it will take the hard work of parents, teachers, and fellow students to achieve.
